Malli Homes' Zero-Energy Building Methods
A Zero-Energy Home generates as much energy as it consumes. The energy used is produced by on-site renewable energy sources such as Solar Panels. Similar to a conventional home a Zero Energy home is connected to the electric company's grid. Unlike a conventional home a Zero-Energy Home puts the energy generated back into the grid through a process called Net-Metering. At the end of your billing cycle your bill will reflect the amount of kilowatts used minus the amount generated. A Zero-Energy Home Design feature 4 key components:
- A super insulated and tightly sealed building that also contributes to excellent indoor air quality
- An energy efficient heating and cooling system that incorporates Passive Solar Design
- Energy producing equipment: Solar (grid tied) Electric Panels & a Solar Hot Water System
- Energy efficient products: efficient windows, lighting, appliances, and plumbing fixtures
The advantages of a Zero-Energy Design (ZED):
- Net-Metering - your Solar Panels will generate electricity and feed it back into the electric-grid, thus reducing or eliminating your electric bill.
- Protects the environment - energy used in our homes often comes from the burning of fossil fuels at power plants, which contributes to smog, acid rain, and global warming. With a ZED Home you can harvest your own clean energy from the sun and help protect the environment.
- Independence - your Solar Panels will produce energy for you and with a battery back-up system your home can operate during power outages.
- Protects you against energy price increases - and reduces your total cost of ownership due to your home's improved energy efficiency.
- Increased buyer interest - the value of a ZED home relative to a conventional building should increase every time energy costs increase.
- Tax credits - receive a 30% tax credit and pay zero Washington Sales Tax on all Solar Electric Systems and Energy Producing Equipment.
